In The Beginning

As Italy started to rebuild after the destruction of WW II, Enzo Ferrari’s team in the village of Maranello was designing and building its first car. Engineer Gioachino Colombo led a small team that created the 125 engine. The 60 degree 1,500cc 12-cylinder engine was the first of the Colombo line that would power Ferrari cars for years. The team soon enlarged the engine to 2,000cc. The 166 engines were installed in the first two Corsa Spyder cars built by Ferrari.

In The Beginning is the 166 engine installed in Ferrari 166 Corsa Spyder s/n 004C. It is interesting to note that the earliest engines did not have the Ferrari name embossed on the cam covers.
