In an effort to end the domination of the Porsche 935s, IMSA introduced the GTP (Grand Touring Prototypes) class for the 1981 season. Brian Redman won the championship with the Lola T600. For the ’82 season Interscope Racing switched from the Porsche 935 to a Lola T600. Powered by the small block Chevrolet V8 the two team drivers would finish second (Ted Field) and fifth (Danny Ongais) in the GTP championship.
